If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
Allison has left. Not just left the house - she did that in February - I mean left the state. She flew back to Indiana yesterday. No, not to live with her mother; to live with her boyfriend - and his mother and sister. Great situation. The whole thing comes back to the first 17 years of her life. For the first 13 of those, she and her mother got along fairly well. Then things changed - and no matter which of them started the ball rolling - things got worse. For four years. Then, she came to live with us. We were hopeful; we were understanding; we were generous. But those four years came back to haunt us.

So many projects, not enough time
I have so many projects - but not enough time to work on them all in any given day. *sigh* I wish Uncle Monster would hurry up with his cloning machine - but then, he’s in the same boat that I am. Hmmm - someone needs to clone him, then he could finish it…of course, if they could clone him - they could clone me at the same time, and I wouldn’t need his cloning machine…which means they wouldn’t need to clone him at all. See! This is why I need that cloning machine - so I can get some more sleep! — Well, at least one of me could. Personally, I don’t think I’d want a clone. I mean, what if your clone forgot to tell you all the things that someone said to you.
Person: (somewhat sad) Thanks for letting me talk yesterday. I did feel better later.
Original you: Sure. Hey, how’s Frank? I can’ t wait to see him at the costume party later! You guys always make such a wonderful Cinderella and Prince Charming.
Person: (stunned; appalled) What? I told you yesterday he ran off with his secretary and has filed for divorce! I spent 45 minutes crying in your office!
Original you: Oh. Uh….
See? Very awkward situations could occur. I guess you could lock your clone up in your house - but you know they’ll be tempted to answer the phone or the door. And then “bam” - the whole can of worms will open.
No - after thinking it over - I think I’ll pass on the cloning, Uncle Monster. The time machine, however, is a whole different story. That way, this whole post won’t having been written at all.

(waves) Hey! Remember me?
Sorry I’ve been so distant. Lots going on. One of those things - and a few of you know this already - is that Allison left home. It’s a complicated story (and possibly a bit long), so I’m just going to sum it up this way: we had some baseline rules - she decided she didn’t want to go along with those rules - she left. I am hoping this is one of those situations where a relationship improves when the people involved have a bit of distance between them. I still love her very much - and miss her, too (just in case you’re reading this, Allison).
In other news, Andrew had a phone interview with Google. While the interview went fine, Andrew has decided that he will probably not pursue it. In order to get there, he will have to commute about 2 hours each way - plus work 8 hours - which means 12 hour days. I’m sure all of you can imagine that devoting 4 hours of your life just to traveling to/from your job is a lot to ask by any employer. Plus, there are no telecommuting options for the position; which means losing the flexibility to work and help out with something at home. These are not the only reasons, of course, but they are important nonetheless.
What else? I’ve been trying to find some writing time here and there. It’s been more difficult lately with the upheaval of her departure - and other things that have needed to be done. Oh! Something else I haven’t really told anyone - I began voice lessons a little while ago. I had a fairly decent alto voice a few years back and decided to “refresh” it, if you will. So far, I really like my voice coach. She’s a very vibrant lady. Jill really makes me question why I gave up singing when I did. Ah, well.
We’ve also been watching Babylon 5 on DVD. I love that show. And, of course, there’s the IT Crowd.
But - enough about me - what about all of you? What’s been going on in your neck of the woods?
