New website to share

I’m sure some of my friends have already seen this site, but if by some small chance they haven’t, I’m posting it here.

Authentic Asian is a site which explains a lot of things about Asian culture. I think it’s pretty cool. Go check it out.

NaNo is moving along….

At the pace things are going - I’m thinking I’m going to make it! I wasn’t sure a couple of days ago, but some things are coming together, and I think I’m going to make it. That will be two years in a row for me. But even if I don’t make the golden deadline - I’ve learned a lot from this year’s NaNo.

Maybe I’ll share some of those when the insanity’s over … no, I mean, the NaNo insanity - the other insantiy never goes away…I live with them. LOL!

QUIZ TIME

chimaera
CHIMAERA

You are a chimaera. A
chimaera is a monster with three heads, usually
a lion, a goat, and a serpent. The chimaera is
a very interesting and mysterious creature. The
serpent is often interpreted as a symbol of
evil and deceit. On the other hand lions
signify courage and honor, and goats could
symbolize sustenance and prosperity. Overall
though the chimaera is the ultimate symbol of
mystery and the supernatural.

I’m the winningest person you know!

Okay - so - in other winning free stuff news:

I had won another contest at Demented Michelle’s for a Tamara Siler Jones book called Ghosts in the Snow. I really liked this book…it’s a murder mystery-meets-fantasy book. I think that if you enjoy both genres, you will really like this book, too. If you’re more of a mystery person, the fantasy isn’t overbearing, so don’t let that frighten you away. It’s well done.

So how cool was it when……

I won a drawing at Paperback Writer’s website! Yay! Free books!

Here are the books:

Threads of Malice also by Tamara Siler Jones (from PBW - see? see? how cool is that? I read the first one - loved it - and then her second one shows up! Yay!)

Last Girl Dancing by Holly Lisle (I wanted this one, too, and viola’! It’s like Lynn read my mind.)

And last - but not least: Private Demon by Lynn Viehl (Lynn = PBW)

Now - add to this the gift certificate I just won (see previous entry) and you can see that my book needs are met - for about the next minute! LOL!

Amazingly enough, I will be updating my Amazon wish list soon aaaaannnddd my birthday and Christmas are coming up soon. Just FYI, you know. ;-)

UPDATE: on Vote for Me!

There was a mix-up in the contest at Demented Michelle’s - so she sent all the participants an Amazon gift certificate. Isn’t she the best? :-) THANKS, MICHELLE!

The weekend

We had a pretty good weekend around here. Friday night we went to a dinner party at the house of AJ’s boss. (good steak) Saturday was “goof off day”. I reorganized some of the files on my laptop (finally) and played video games and did some writing. Sunday I went to a write-in for NaNoWriMo and we did some this’s-n-that’s around the house. Not too exciting - but sometimes that’s okay.

How was everyone else’s weekends?

Veteran’s Day Quiz (and something you maybe hadn’t read before)

While searching for current posters that celebrate our men and women in uniform, I came across this quiz. And after seeing my results below, I found Patton’s original speech. Can you imagine George C. Scott delivering that speech? I can - it would have been great!

You scored as Officer. Officer, you’re the brass. The leader of the bunch. You have leadership qualities, or you have a really big ego. Most likely both. You know how to get things done, and don’t care who you have to kill to get them done. You’re a man/woman with a mission and to stand in your way means pain. You have gumption and intelligence to back it up.

Hold the line!!! AND SOMEONE GET ME COFFEE!!!

Happy Veteran’s Day

Happy Veteran’s Day to all those who have served or are serving! I know there are many that don’t appreciate you - but we here at our family compound sure do.

My mom’s dad and step-dad both fought in WWII. Grandpa Gene died in a tank while crossing a bridge in France; my Grandpa Ernie (who later became her step-dad) was part of the group that island hopped up to Japan in the Pacific. He was part of a group sent into Japan before the signing. He died from cancer just a few years ago. My dad was part of the 11th Airborne in the 1950’s. My cousin was a medic in Vietnam. And my friend Andrew D (who probably never reads this blog anyway) was in Gulf War I. All these guys were Airborne - but don’t think that I’m too biased. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines - I support you all.

HOOAH!

To that here are some images I found:

Funny that you can’t find any posters quite like these for our men and women serving today. It makes me a little sad. I know we have more pictures and blogs and websites now - but I have to say I still like the feeling these older posters invoke.

OH, and last, but not least: Happy Birthday Marines!

NaDruWriNi??

Apparently, I’ve been missing this one. National Drunk Writing Night is heading into it’s third year.

Hmmm - wouldn’t that have been every night for E.A. Poe? or Scott Fitzgerald? or Stephen Crane? or William Faulkner? Just a thought - what other alcoholic authors do you know? Maybe that’s the missing piece - we aren’t drunk enough!

Nah …..

NaNoWriMo BANG #2!

7216 is the word count to date. YaHOOOO! It’s moving along smoother than I’d thought it would. I’m still a bit unsure of this plot - it seems a little shaky, but it’s holding up so far. Now - to bed!
