Today
Today is the last day of the month of July. Hard to believe 7 months of this year are gone already. Time is just flying by for some reason. Came across this cartoon today. It’s one of several I read. Hard not to have several comics to read…there are those you find yourself - and those that others recommend…and then before you know it, you have a whole list you’re reading.
Went to the beach today. No. Cal beaches are different than So. Cal beaches - or east coast beaches, for that matter. I personally love Gulf Coast beaches best…but it’s nice to have a beach … no matter the sand … to go to - so I’m not complaining really. We had a picnic and just enjoyed the sand and surf. No, we didn’t surf - just enjoyed the water - well, you know what I mean… Anyway, got a touch of sunburn - so I’m really tired now. Funny how relaxing in the sun makes you so tired later.
Hope all of you are having fun - and are staying out of any trouble you don’t want to get into.

Battlestar Galactica Season 2 and SG-1 Season 9
Ah - well - the new seasons started last week. I don’t count Stargate: Atlantis. Sorry. I think I can sum it up in a quote by Mr. Horse from Ren & Stimpy: “No, sir, I didn’t like it.” Andrew is pretty far behind as far as SG-1 goes - so I’m watching that one alone. I found an excellent resource for telling the main storylines of all the episodes, so I caught myself up as far as main plot points (I still want to watch the actual episodes to get the finer points).
But Battlestar - that’s another story. I don’t think either of us breathed for the majority of the opener. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like the new series, but from the first 15 minutes, I was hooked. I’m sure I’ve rambled about it here before, so I’ll just move on and say that I am practically counting the minutes until part 2 of the season opener comes on.
Can’t write any more - must go make pre-show preparations.

What I’m watching when the kids go to bed….
…as if you all really care… B U T …AJ and I are watching two different series right now.
The first is Curb Your Enthusiasm, which stars Larry David as Himself and is about all of the goings-on in his day-to-day life. It’s scary and hysterical. You feel like you’re watching a blend of The Office (UK version - the US version is dead to me) and Seinfeld. I recommend it. You find yourself cringing - but watching through your fingers anyway. Seinfeld was about his life as a standup in NYC; this is about his settled, successful life in Malibu. We’ve finished Season 1, disc 1 - hopefully disc 2 will be on the way from Netflix soon.
The next is Cowboy Bebop. I can’t put my finger on why I love this show so much. It’s anime. It’s about bounty hunters. It takes place in the future. I can pick out all of the characteristics, but no one thing makes me go “Oh, yeah, that’s why I like it.” I guess it’s a show whose sum is greater than its parts. If you can relate to a show as a “who” for this analogy.
CB disc 2 is on loan to us from Mr. Jones as Netflix had sent us something like disc 5.
A N Y W A Y — that’s what we’re watching right now. What are you guys taking in these days?

Ants! We hateses them!
Well, I was hoping the resident Ant Tribe would let us get settled and have some time to absorb our surroundings before invading us … but nooooooooo! It’s one of the things I really do hate about CA. The bugs in general, but ants specifically, are quite vicious and agressive. It’s the lack of moisture and the heat. We had seen some milling around outside getting closer and closer to the back sliding door - and told them to dispurse…you know…illegal congregating and loitering and all…well, that and some chemical encouragement…and they were gone. But then this morning I went downstairs to find them on the counter and the sink. Bleech! So - most of my day has been spent acquiring more chemical ammo and ridding the kitchen of their presence. Did I say yuck already? Anyway, we called an exterminator who will be here tomorrow. That might seem a bit extreme, but hey, when it comes to ants, I’m willing to call out the nuclear solution sooner rather than later.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
WOW! Absolutely amazing… This edition in the Harry Potter saga was shorter than the last - only 652 pages. I received it via the UPS guy at about 12:30 - and with the exception of a few hours here or there for the kids and so on - I still had time to finish it in the same day - at 11:04 P.M. Now the countdown must begin for Book 7! If you’ve been reading this story - you won’t believe it … and if you haven’t been reading the series … WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU?! LOL! I’m not entirely serious there - everyone has their own types of books that fit them - and I’m sure there are people out there for whom Harry Potter holds no appeal. Somewhere…. Anyway - I can’t really discuss it here like I did Ep. III, because there’s no way to talk about it without giving things away. Those who want to discuss it with me after reading can call (if you know my number) or e-mail me. Just had to plug it as a great read.

New term? Not!
If you are familiar with the word hysterical, you know its root is hustera, or Greek for “womb”. From this the word hysteria was coined, originally to mean a neurotic condition in a woman, because the quacks in the mid-1600’s had no real clue about mental disorders and tied those women’s conditions to their wombs…idiots. Anyway…..
While we were out in the garage trying to finish our moving out fiasco, Andrew starts rambling about something on and on, and I say, “Don’t get hysterical.” To which he quips that by definition, he can’t get hysterical because he has no womb. So I say, “Fine - then don’t get testerical….”
Testerical. I thought I was being rather original at the time, then a Google search shows that others are just as original as I am.
Oh, well. As the man said:
What has been is what will be,
and what has been done is what will be done;
there is nothing new under the sun.
Ta-ta for now!

AUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!
So - here it is - July 18th. I feel like I’ve been forced to watch a Green Acres Marathon on TV Land or something. I am mentally and physically worn out, and the real kicker? I’M NOT EVEN HALF WAY FINISHED YET! (ahem) Many friends and family were commenting to me what a great adventure we were going on and etc etc etc. I don’t think they’ve ever moved any farther than to the next town or across the same town. Moving cross-country - as we’ve done for the third time - isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Everyone wants to know if I’m happy or excited. I’m too tired and stressed to know how I feel right now. First it was trying to get out of there - now it’s trying to get settled here. Example: I went to the store and bought salad…no dressing…just the salad. Got home and realized, “Oh, yeah, we don’t have any dressings!” So a new trip to the store is now needed. *sigh* Some spaces are bigger and others are smaller, but the furniture/things that don’t fit in one spot can’t necessarily be used in another. Case in point - my Baker’s Rack. Fit fine in our kitchen area in Illinois - but here, no…it doesn’t fit here, and I can’t exactly stuff it in the dining room, now can I? Because, as AJ puts it, it looks all “kitchen-y.” So, I apologize for being so quiet here (in fact, I’ve not even called some people yet to give them our new phone number or address), but my life is in no way settled yet. I did get an email on the road here asking if I was feeling lonely and so on (the person thought we were already out here then)…I suppose I am - if anything I miss my former chaos. This new chaos is a lot more stressful and frustrating. There - I’m done with my mini-venting. You can all go about your nice, settled, predictable, calm, unboxed lives now…. But hey, at least I know where my towel is, right?
P.S. Went with AJ to see War of the Worlds. Loved it. I may write a review tonight if I have time. (ha-ha)
