Evil monkey spotted!

So, Andrew and I took my eMac to the shop (poor, sick eMac), and on the way off the interstate, we ended up behind a school bus. Suddenly, this young man (16 or so) approaches the back of the bus and out the back window - does a perfect EVIL MONKEY impression! The bus immediately started turning, so he didn’t see us laughing. Frantically I grabbed pen and paper and wrote “EVIL MONKEY” on it. Andrew got us back behind the bus, and I held up the sign. At first I think he thought it was going to say something negative about what he was doing (he was doing it to other cars too before we got behind him again), but when he saw my sign, his face lit up, he started laughing and yelling to his friends. We then got the “thumbs up” and “you’re cool” signs from him and his friends. Andrew honked as we went by (the bus was turning). It was a very cool Family Guy moment - and the first we’ve ever had with strangers.

Another note…..

If you’ve read Andrew’s blog, you know about his dad. This has been a strange and awkward time for all of us. The most frustrating thing is that they don’t know where it is. I’ll keep you posted as I can. So in the meantime - if there are large lulls in our posts - there’s probably a reason.

Okay - here’s something…..

I agree with Howard Taylor of Schlock Mercenary, the Italians take their pizza a little too seriously. You can find Schlock here. If you are not a current fan, you will want to go allllll the way back to the beginning and read. It’s completely worth it, I promise. Howard’s about 2 weeks away from a 4-year anniversary! As with any on-line comic strip, the art, color, and stories only get better as the comic continues. (P.S. Be sure to use the story-line drop-down menu and choose “Meet the mercenaries” at the very top.)

Lack of postings

Okay - okay - there has been a major lack of postings. I’ll just have to admit that right now, I’m not feeling very witty, funny, or fueled up about any political injustice to the point where I can write about it in a fluid and coherent way. I don’t even know if I just spelled “coherent” correctly. I’ll have to see about filling you all in on all the details (most of you probably already know anyway). I will *try* to post something interesting as soon as I can. Keep checking back. I miss you guys when you’re away.

Another day, another day

So, here it is - Wednesday the 19th. There’s really not anything I can update here; but I will say that Andrew is in Boston and hating it. He really wants to be here - for many reasons. *sigh* I am working on some things to post next week - so hang on til then. In the meantime - how about posting how all of you are? I don’t hear from you that often.

Um…it’s May 7th.

That’s about all I’ve got actually for now. Well, I will add my movie review:

Big Fish is a pretty good movie. I watched it last night, and while there are no splashy action scenes or super catchy one-liners (”Yippee-ki-ya, M*****-f*****.” from Die Hard comes to mind), it’s a very moving film that has some superb moments and will make you think about your relationships with other people (esp kids if you have them). There are some interesting special effects, but because they are subtle, you don’t really think about them. And while I have to admit seeing Danny DeVito’s naked backside was a bit unnerving, it wasn’t out of place. The imagery itself is symbolic and while some didn’t like the flash-back/flash-forward effects or the fact that sometimes the voice-over was the younger Ed and sometimes the elder Ed, I think if you are truly paying attention to the overlay of the story, it makes perfect sense. Crudup’s character didn’t really bloom until about half-away through the movie, but I wonder if that wasn’t on purpose. I myself am not a huge Jessica Lange fan, but was impressed with her ability to show the mother’s range of emotions without overplaying or underplaying anything.

[Rated PG-13. Stars Ewan McGregor, Billy Crudup, Albert Finney; Also stars Jessica Lange, Danny DeVito, and Steve Buscemi. Directed by Tim Burton. Music by Danny Elfman.]

Gripes My Monkey Scale: I give this movie - Big Fish - 8 out of 10 bananas! Which means its fit for out-and-out consumption! :-)

Setting problems

I had some setting problems - therefore no one was able to comment on my latest posts. :-( I think I’ve fixed it now….I hope.

May Day! May Day!

Today is May Day. Those pagans in the crowd might call it Beltane. This day also has other important events associated with it - like it’s the 13th anniversary of the day AJ and I became an exclusive couple. YAY! Well, and there’s um…this. But then there’s also those crazy Hawai’ians!

Maybe it does all tie together….Hmmmm…. Well, however you celebrate it, go out and have a great May Day!!!!
