So far so good…

So far no problems with my Mac - save one that might not be a problem. AJ thought there was a conflict with syncing with the Palm software - but I did some research and it seems to only affect those who use Palm 4.1 - I use 4.0. Any info - let me know.

Hey, dig me! I’m a posting machine. How many is this today? Aren’t you all proud of me?

Ah - a confession….and the after-glow

Okay - I admit it - I am PJ and I am addicted to books. Others have admitted it too. I don’t know if bibliophile explains it well enough. It’s like any library - any bookstore - has the potential to become like a temple. There is something odd about it - perhaps I can describe it (maybe not). When I go into Border’s - even if I was in a bad mood - I become calm (and it’s not just the music) - walking along reading the titles, looking at covers, maybe even reading a line or two, touching the books as I walk the aisles is so soothing and invigorating all at the same time. *sigh* I love books. Even if I don’t buy anything (although buying is better) just going there is wonderful. Some of you will understand - some not so much. For those who do, we’ll be having a Book Addicts Anonymous meeting at the Cafe’ in the Border’s on Main Street - oh, wait…..

Strange glimpses of other worlds

So today I went to a Rare Book and Paper Show at a local college. This was a strange event. I found things I didn’t even know I would be interested in, only to realize that I didn’t want them –that– much. Some of these books go for $500. Ouch. Still, I did manage to stealthly flip through a book on nursing by - brace yourself - Florence Nightingale. One man looked like the writer from Finding Forrester. He seemed nervous and definately eccentric. Many others looked like professors off whom someone blew the dust and let them out of their offices. I think I was the youngest adult there. (A few kids had been dragged in by their grandparents apparently.) There was an autographed copy of a Margaret Weis book. I practically snorted out loud. Why would I pay them when I could buy a copy at Border’s, write to Margaret and get her address, and have her sign it with a personal note! (side note: I really do have Ms. Weis’ email address and have traded several emails with her ^_^) There were some interesting things there - and some ho-hum things. Still, it was a good chance to people-watch. It was certainly more interesting than my trip to the grocery store. I usually shop at the SuperTarget, which technically is a grocery, but in a lot of ways - it isn’t. But the Jewel is a whole other experience. There were no less than three women on cell phones in every aisle I was in - and if they way they push their carts around the store is any indication of their car driving skills - stay off the roads AND the sidewalks. They were stopping in the middle of the aisles, blocking things on the shelves and paying no attention to the craning heads and snaking arms of those behind them, running into people - and again all while inanely chatting on their cell phones. “All I know is that she came home from their date and said she was never seeing him again.” “I couldn’t make him listen.” “Do you think we should both wear black?” There was *1* lady who was actually having a useful conversation: “Do you want mashed potatoes or mac and cheese?” Plus, I don’t like the Jewel all that much to begin with - their stuff is over-priced and their workers aren’t all that friendly. Luckily I still had the after-glow of my Border’s trip to sustain me.

Hey - I think I can see my house from here….

This site is called Visible Earth. I think it’s pretty cool.

Are *you* a Patriot?

Came across this quiz. The web site itself seems to lean to the left politically…but I thought the quiz was cute anyway.

For all my writer (and non-writer) friends…..

This young lady got her work published with an alternative publishing house. It was orginally a chapbook - now it’s in hardback form. I purchased a copy at Borders just the other day. It’s an … interesting … read; I did it more to support her (although I don’t agree with all her viewpoints on things) because she’s a young, struggling writer.

It’s gotten me to thinking about alternatives to getting published via a major house (Del Ray, Tor, etc.). There are some ePublishers out there that can help you get your book out there faster because, well, quite frankly, they don’t have as much costs because everythings electronic. I’ll let you know what I find out.

Can you ever forgive me?

I am so sorry I haven’t been posting. I usually try to post a little personal stuff mixed with a little political stuff with a dash of zaniness thrown in. Sadly Real Life has been intruding - and I’ve been sick. (Achoo!) I will try to post something tonight….other than this…honest…..

Upgrade time!

I am in the process of upgrading my Mac to Panther (yippee) - after the dust settles, I’ll try to post some things. :-)

‘Tis the season…

For colds, anyway. Bleech. That explains part of my exhaustion lately. The old white cells were putting up a good fight, but apparently got overwhelmed. I am not well, and therefore, not posting much today.

Okay, fine, you got me.

There wasn’t an update yesterday, but I had a really good reason: I was exhausted. Still am. Which is why - yet again - I have to beg off posting anything which requires thinking … either on your part or mine. Still, tomorrow is another day, and if I can get some sleep, I might remember what I was going to post. Nite all, tuck yourselves in.

Too tired to post anything tonight - maybe tomorrow

I have spent two hours wrestling with my checkbook to discover that - for some reason - I was off by $16.47. Was it worth it? I’m not sure, but my mind is finally at peace. It was driving me insane because the numbers were not (pardon this expression) adding up. One pass I was over, next pass I short. Finally figured out that I had to add $11.03 to 10/31’s balance and subtract $27.50 from today’s. HUH???? If anyone is into accounting and can explain that - please…on second thought, don’t. It’s over - I figured it out - I’m done. Really. I am not going to log back into the bank’s website and go over it any more. I promise.

In other news, there will be a better update tomorrow. Really, really. ‘Nite
