Burning bridges is *so* passé

Well, I quit my job today.

It’s been coming for some time; the feeling of dread whenever I had to do anything job related, the increasing dislike of travel for work. Not a dislike of travel; just travel for work.

I was also growing quite disenchanted with the product offerings and the overall direction of the company. Add to that increased job duties – for no extra compensation, I might mention – and you have a bad mixture. I did give them two weeks notice.

So, we’ve parted ways. It could have been better, it could have been worse, but I don’t think they’ll be hiring me back – hence the graphic at the top of this post. I plan to take some time off where I don’t worry about anything job related and then get back to it with another company. In the meantime I have some consulting work and short-term work lined up, so we’ll be ok.

(This post was so much more interesting – and less whiny – than the one I had planned regarding the crummy weather we’re having.)

Update/clarification:
(Jan 12 2005)
The above makes it sound like they were slave drivers (“no more compensation”, etc.), and that is not the case. More a situation of they needed me to perform certain duties temporarily, and I agreed. Only then did I realize the full extent of the expectations they had… Poor communications on both sides. I’m not saying I wasn’t upset, but I don’t want to make them sound evil or anything.

Plus, this story isn’t done yet. Look for more later on.

And, since you are posting this at 5:55pm (server time), it means you are doing this from work.

    Good for you!

It’s wet…and thundering…I’m afraid to leave the house. Not of the weather, but how everyone else here drives in this kind of weather.

So now you’ll have more time with the kids, yay, until you find something new. Apart from the lack of income, I can’t actually find a downside to this!
