Yay organization!

When we were getting ready to move back to CA - May 2005, really – I kind of stopped trying to organize my digital landscape.

Actually, no “kind of” about it. I had over 900 items of various types in my Downloads folder on the desktop. And I had about 18 GB of data in my Burn folder (items to burned to a DVD-R).

The sad thing is that many of the items in the Downloads folder were duplicates – various versions of Firefox, Thunderbird and other applications I use regularly.

So, I embarked upon a journey to clean all of this crap out about a month ago. A lot of the stuff was data I wanted to keep and make accessible later, so just trashing all of it was out of the question.

Last night I managed to get the very last of it burned to DVD. My laptop is clean! Yay me.

Now, I just need to clean out these network drives on my server. :(

Moving away from the programming posts

Ever since I started it this site has been a mixture of my favorite topics: firearms, politics, silliness, stupidity, half-baked opinion, etc. Lately it has seen an increase in the number of posts about programming languages, algorithms and computer topics; this is mostly due to a resurgence in my interest in these topics. I’m tired of devolving into computer install-monkey and the best, most fun way to stop and reverse the devolution is to start creating things. As I run across info and tools I like to share.

The problem with that is that those who come for the silly probably aren’t here for the algorithms.

So, in light of that I’m moving all computer related posts to a new weblog called “Hash Collision” that will be starting up (hopefully) this week. I’ll post this link when I get it running.

I broke it (UPDATED)

My comment moderation appears to be very unhappy, so if you’ve made a comment and it hasn’t appeared you now know why.

I’ll fix it just as soon as I figure out how it is broken.

UPDATE

Yay, me! I fixed it using some MySQL voodoo. The comment spammers who were responsible for the breakage have been located and are – at this moment – having their sentence carried out:

Death by beltsander

It’s too good for them. Really.

Well, I do like Legos…

Apparently my love of Legos is an indicator that I may be a good Dad.

Cool!
