Police are being told to respect Muslim tradition when it comes to domestic violence cases in Australia.

You read that right – they are being told to treat wife-beating “differently” in the event the offender is Muslim.

You know, if you reward a behavior you will get more of it. I’ll go on record and openly question the sanity of anyone who feels they must “respect the traditions” of a culture that has a long – and recent – history of misogyny and brutality. It’s not that my ancestors don’t, we all come from bloody roots. But most of us have grown past that, and I can hardly imagine saying we should treat any situation differently if the offender is Irish or Scottish. I fail to see how this is different.
