Oh, yeah, they’re serious about this

I’ll quote from the article :

When FBI supervisors in Miami met with new interim U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta last month, they wondered what the top enforcement priority for Acosta and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales would be.

Would it be terrorism? Organized crime? Narcotics trafficking? Immigration? Or maybe public corruption?

The agents were stunned to learn that a top prosecutorial priority of Acosta and the Department of Justice was none of the above. Instead, Acosta told them, it’s obscenity. Not pornography involving children, but pornographic material featuring consenting adults.

This is the #1 priority? Until I see differently I am now convinced that the current administration has lost their bearings. This does not bode well for them in the coming elections. It bodes far worse for those poor innocents that will be shot, blown up and head-chopped by the Islamist scum we are were – until recently, that is – trying to kill.

(Yes, I know the other side is even more lost; this is about the only thing at this time that is in the current administrations favor)

Help needed

The disaster in New Orleans is the largest – ever – in the US.

You can find a large list of charities here. Please help.

Tiger by the tail

Yes, I finally joined the rest of the Mac world and upgraded to Tiger.

This means that I will no longer be using the Apple Mail client as they have managed to turn a beautiful creation into a horrible, twisted, mutated, unreliable thing that can’t even do IMAP correctly. IMAP, the basic mail protocol.

Come on, Apple, Mail is a basic need. How did these flaws NOT come out in beta testing? It’s broken. So broken I won’t be using it any more. Plus, while breaking it, did you have to hit it with the ugly stick so many times?

Lucky for me there is Thunderbird or I’d be really upset. Oh, well. The rest of it is nice, and (once again) my computer got faster after an upgrade. That’s seriously weird.

The Moonbats are barking

Of course we can always count on a loud spell of barking from anyone with the surname of Kennedy, always a good indicator of brain damage after about 1968.

Here we have a commentary from RFK Jr. seriously suggesting that the hurricane that hit New Orleans is due to our rejection of the Kyoto treaty.

I wasn’t aware that RFK Jr. had a degree in meteorology or climatology, but he doesn’t let little things like facts or evidence get in the way of political puffery.

Now, keep in mind that this is at the Huffington Post; it’s harder to find a bunch of whiny, blubbering paleo-libs anywhere other than the Democratic Underground (aka the “Duhs”). You’ve been warned.

Hmmm… I wonder…

It has all of the hallmarks of a great television news story:

A young woman; the heroin. She slaves every day at Wal-Mart, and lives in fear of her estranged, violent husband.

Then he appears at her place of work; struggling for her life, he stabs her with murder in his eyes.

BUT! She survives – at the last moment she looks …

And another customer with a valid Concealed Carry License blows the jerk away. Police say “thank goodness he was there” and “no charges are pending.”

Strangely, national news isn’t interested. Gee, I wonder why. Could it be because this showed an actual reason why being armed is a good thing under the right circumstances?

Yes, THAT liberal media!

Uh oh

From the New York Times, regarding Katrina hitting New Orleans:

In an interview later with CNN, the mayor also referred to the potential impact the hurricane could have on the oil supply from the vulnerable area.

“The real issue – that I don’t think the nation is paying attention to – is that through the city of New Orleans, through the Gulf of Mexico, we probably deal with almost a third of the nation’s domestic oil that is produced. And that will most likely be shut down,” Mr. Nagin said.

“So, this can have a significant impact on oil prices going forward,” he added.

You know, that Smart Car is starting to look better and better to me.

“Ha ha only serious” – I am seriously considering one of these for Bay Area commuting. I’d like to be sure that a flow of parts will be maintained, but at only $10K – $15K for a BRAND NEW car this doesn’t sound bad at all.

Yeah, I intend to keep the truck. It’s useful sometimes…

Here it is; a little Nevada, some Utah and quite a bit of California. We can finally get into the digital photos after this.

One year ago, yesterday

One year ago yesterday was the fatal motorcycle accident that took our friend Chuck from us. He is quite missed.

We went over to Val’s house last night for a little get-together; partly to catch up, partly to tell jokes and stories about Chuck. It was pretty nice, and I got to see some people I haven’t seen in a long time. I also got to meet some new people. Pam had a good time. I’m sure she’ll say more, but I could tell that she was happy to meet a group of people who didn’t look at her funny when she stated her ambitions. This was rarely true in Illinois.

One of them, Tim Spencer, is rather heavily involved in the Burning Man project. It was interesting to talk to someone who hasn’t turned cynical WRT to Burning Man; for him, it is all about the art and the communities. It’s nice to find someone who isn’t interested only for drugs and naked boobies. I simply must go next year – life is too short.

Busted

So, I’ve been using Soulseek for about six months now. I only shared my library with people that I was DL’ing from. Very, very cool. I’ve been trying to download the entire library of songs by “The Cars” and I was about half way done.

Today I go out to my mailbox to find an envelope with a distinct “RIAA” letterhead on it. I flipped out and opened it up to find a pretty harsh letter from the RIAA, basically telling me that they are going to sue me (I have about 3,000 mp3s on my server). I called up my mom and my mom got scared she said you’re moving in with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air. I whistled for a cab and when it came near the license place said “Fresh” and had dice in the mirror, if anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought nah, forget it, yo home to Bel-Air!

I pulled up to the house about seven or eight, I yelled to the cabbie “Yo home, smell you later!”, looked at my kingdom I was finally there, to sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel-Air.

Not tonight

No pictures tonight; our friend Pedro stopped by for supper (Mmmm… Lemon chicken and Death By Macaroni) and I didn’t have time to compile the slides. More (a LOT more) later.

In the meantime, here is the slingshot that I’m ordering; two of them, in fact, one for myself and one for Pedro. Gotta get them before some pinhead tries to make them illegal. (warning: site has annoying music)
