Basic Hip Digital Oddio. What else is there to say?

I’ve been watching the development of public news sources for some time. Blogs are becoming a real source of news; see the earlier post about Captain’s Quarter’s reporting on the Canadian corruption trial that has been blacked out in Canada.
Ok, well, some blogs are news. This one isn’t, but it was never meant to be a news source.
Anyway, with the Mainstream Media now taking pot shots are blogs (“They aren’t journalists”, “They are a Mongol Horde”, etc.) it seems that – perhaps – the big guys are a bit worried.
A recent entry in the new wars is nowpublic.com. Some of it is very interesting and not seen elsewhere, some is a rehash of other sources. But, no Jacko so far – another plus!
Now on to the more annoying news items.
Via Boing Boing:
It seems that Rick Santorum – yes, that Rick Santorum – has decided to try pass a bill preventing NOAA (the national weather service) from publishing weather data on the internet. Yes, you read that right. It seems that one of Mr. Santorum’s major donors just happens to be Accu Weather. But don’t worry – Accu Weather will be happy to sell you the data that they will still get for from from NOAA… for free. The data that you are paying for with your taxes.
I find it disturbing that, in this day and age, we have a elected representative saying that is is a good idea for our government to publish less data for the public.

And, a note to say that, apparently, Kansas is still in the 1700’s. Probably not safe for work.
